What Nen Type Do You Have: "Glass of Water" Tested

Hunter x Hunter introduces the concept of nen use pretty early in the series. And once the audience has a clear definition of the term and concept, we get to see any amazing things accomplished by the practice.

Gon has some interesting skills. Many other main characters of the show impress us with their skills as well. However, even the smallest episodal characters are features with something unique! Such diversity and attention to detail impress. This all is achieved by introducing not a couple but six nen types. They mix and match and connect with the personality of the user! Thus, you get lots and lots of interesting, fascinating, and tricky fighting styles heavily based on the aura types!

There is a test that determines a student's inclination. There is a glass of water. If its quality improves, we know that a person is an enhancer. This is the ability to use aura to increase the natural abilities of an object or body. This is believed to be the most balanced skill.

If the taste of water in the glass changes, the person is believed to be a transmuter. This is quite a tricky ability - transmitters can change their aura to mimic something else or only specific attributes. Only nen users can see the aura constructs.

If the color of water changes, the person has an affinity towards emission. However, it doesn't mean that a person has a rule over colors. No, they have an easy time separating their aura from the body. This can be helpful for long-range and long-lasting skills.

If the student creates an object in the glass, they have a conjuration ability. It is defined as the ability to create a physical, independent, material object out of one's aura. Conjurers can also create laws and principles, as you see with Kurapika's chains.

A student can also move a leaf that floats in a glass of water. If they can do it, they are a manipulator. This is a rather powerful ability on its own - the user can control living and non-living things. If you master it, you are the caster to recon with.

If you see none of the abovementioned effects during the water glass test but do/create something else, you are a Specialist. Specialization is a vague type that includes everything that doesn't fall into any other categories.
